Feature

real-time analysis
Intelligent, real-time video analysis is a key feature in many visual applications. Multiple algorithms, such as motion detection, face recognition, and object detection, often need to run simultaneously across multiple camera sources. With Intel® FPGAs and the Intel® FPGA Deep Learning Acceleration Suite, designers can leverage industry-standard AI frameworks, models, and topologies to create FPGA-based multi-purpose accelerators for implementing convolutional neural network inference engines. By offloading computationally intensive workloads from the host CPU to the FPGA accelerator, designers can optimize the implementation of these algorithms across CPU + FPGA resources, improving overall system performance.

Flexible sensor interface
Image sensor vendors typically adopt proprietary interfaces, and sensor interfaces are constantly evolving to accommodate increasingly improved sensor capabilities. Intel® FPGAs enable designers to easily adopt new sensor interfaces without altering other parts of the design. In contrast, ASSPs require designers to adopt new ASSPs and redesign the camera circuit board.

High-performance video and image signal processing
Intel® FPGA enables designers to quickly and flexibly design high-performance video and signal processing systems. By utilizing IP cores such as Intel s Video and Image Processing (VIP) suite, designers can identify and select the necessary video processing functions, leveraging the high-performance FPGA architecture to accelerate video preprocessing for high-resolution videos.

Efficient video compression
Efficient compression standards such as H.264/H.265 support the use of smaller FPGAs to reduce system costs. Integrating video codecs and other video processing functions into a single FPGA can help designers significantly reduce the bill of materials (BOM). Intel offers a variety of video compression IP cores, enabling designers to flexibly support multiple compression standards and metrics according to application requirements.
